Michael Jackson - Our Icon is a BET's Special Tribute to Michael Jackson after his passing. It is filled with interviews and insights completely from the perspective of Michael as a black man part of the black community. I feel this is important to see, even thought Michael transcends the colour barriers and all lines of race, he first and foremost called himself a proud black man. I hope you enjoy the video's perceptive.

The one thing that I always find moving in sharing my love of Michael, is all the wonderful people I get to meet along the way. I joined the tumblr blog website a while ago and one of the very first people I met and stared to 'follow' was a lovely lady whose tumblr-blog goes by the name of mymjjtribute on there. She is super talented and a wonderful to talk to. Earlier this year she posted one of her beautiful creations that I fell in love with that I asked her permission to post here. Please visit her site to see more of her heartfelt inspirations. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing
Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace
Sing our songs among the stars and walk our dances across the face of the moon
In the instant we learn that Michael is gone we know nothing
No clocks can tell our time and no oceans can rush our tides
With the abrupt absence of our treasure
Though we our many, each of us is achingly alone
Piercingly alone
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him
He came to us from the Creator, trailing creativity in abundance
Despite the anguish of life he was sheathed in mother love and family love and survived and did more than that
He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style
We had him
Whether we knew who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his
We had him
Beautiful, delighting our eyes
He raked his hat slant over his brow and took a pose on his toes for all of us and we laughed and stomped our feet for him
We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing
He gave us all he had been given
Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Blackstar Square, in Johannesburg, in Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, Alabama and Birmingham England, we are missing Michael Jackson
But we do know that we had him
And we are the world

After Michael passed away there were a lot of tributes. Many that were unorganized and poorly executed. This was the one and only one that made me really feel it did him justice. The spectacular opening of the 2009 MTV Awards pays tribute to Michael with a medley of his hits 'Thriller,' 'Bad,' 'Smooth Criminal' and 'Scream' featuring a special appearance by his sister, Janet.

Dressing Michael Jackson: Behind the Seams of a Fashion Icon is a fascinating look at the intersection of music and fashion, as well as an homage to Michael Jackson’s brilliant fusing of costume, personality, and performance to create his iconic image. This is the first art-driven book about the costumes, apparel, shoes, and accessories worn by Michael Jackson, including hundreds of lavish photographs and a behind-the-scenes look into the process of collaborating with him on the making of his wardrobe, written by his longtime costume designer Michael Bush.
Dressing Michael Jackson will feature exquisite photographs of the striking fashions worn by Michael at the height of his career, as well as images showing the carefully planned construction of the clothes to incorporate his unique dance moves and the details of the dynamic fabrics, metals, and other materials used. Accompanying text will provide insight into the artists’ methodology and captivating stories from the decades-long relationship between Michael Jackson and his fashion designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins. Their stories are funny and touching, and show a personal and artistic side of Michael Jackson never before revealed.
